CTEFL / Cert.TBE

Online CTEFL

The online CTEFL Class format:

Course Length: 3 weeks online. 6-hour practice teaching component may be completed anytime within 6 months after the 3-week online program. Additional time extension will be allowed in most cases if requested from your Course Advisor within the six month post-course period.

Lesson Frequency: Generally 2-4 lessons daily, (Monday through Friday) plus supplementary tasks and written assignments. Log-on to our online campus at anytime and complete the daily lessons at a time convenient for you. Your course advisor will be checking in at various times throughout each day to check student progress and answer questions.

Average Daily Time Needed For This Course: It's a good idea to set aside 2 - 3 hours per day (M-F) to complete each day's work. Occasional written assignments may require some work over the weekends. Daily Lessons may be printed so you're not required to be online continuously. We've known of many online students who print out their course lessons and read them over a leisurely cup of coffee at a local shop, log-on to the campus when they return and check-in with the discussions, post questions, etc. This course has been designed with your busy day in mind. Cchoose your course time each day to best fit your own schedule.

Assignment Schedule: Minimum of three per week, plus daily Campus Discussion Forum attendance.

Interactive Requirements: Interns take an active part in online forums and other special events unique to each online class, including any online group class projects. (Schedules will be posted on the Course Campus Website).

Other Requirements: The 6-hour practice teaching component is to be completed by the CTEFL intern before certification will be issued. This requirement may be fulfilled in the student's own local area. Interns may begin their practice teaching after the main three week online program has concluded.

Practice Teaching Options include: Interns will find a variety of options to complete the required practice teaching component. Options include local Literacy Volunteer programs, Private Language Schools, Library Programs, even classes that you set up yourself (upon approval of your Faculty Advisor). It is the student's responsibility to arrange this 6-hour teaching practice.


Online Cert.TBE

Course Length: 2 weeks online, final assignment due within 6 weeks of course end date.

Lesson Frequency: Daily lessons plus supplementary tasks for two weeks (M-F).

Assignment Schedule: Minimum of 3 per week, plus daily online Business Forum visits.

Interactive Requirements: Students must take an active part in online forums and other "special" events unique to each online class, including any online group class projects. (Schedules will be posted on the Course Campus Website).

Other Requirements: Cert.TBE students are required to complete an 8-10 page "micro-thesis" within 6 weeks from the end of the online portion of the course. (Students will have the opportunity to begin work on this project during the two weeks of the course). Certification will be issued upon satisfactory completion of all components of the course.

Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language
CTEFL

 

Certificate Objective: To provide you with a training program that you will need to be a competent teacher of English as a foreign language.

Methodology: Our experienced master trainers demonstrate to you and examine your teaching techniques, materials, and applications. Traditional teaching methods are combined with current laboratory technology to assure you of a comprehensive and practical classroom approach. For resident students, an intensive internship exposing you to non-English speaking students is provided to validate the methodology of the program. Online students complete the 6-hour Practice Teaching requirement with helpful guidance from the Course Advisor.

Language Awareness Skills: Our mentors will guide you through the areas of English grammar and usage which you will need to provide your students with a practical application of English language skills.

Internship and Critique: Your newly acquired skills and their utilization will be thoroughly reviewed with your assigned staff mentor. You will be instructed and critiqued in the following areas.

* principles and techniques of language learning

* linguistic form (teaching structure, lexis, pronunciation)

* execution of lessons (presentation and production)

* error analysis and correction

* teaching aides (language laboratories, videos, computers, films)

* music, dance, and drama techniques

* teaching young learners module

* supervised practice teaching (online students arrange their own practice teaching hours)

* reading skills

 The Certificate in Teaching Business English
Cert.TBE

 

Certificate Objective: To develop practical skills for teaching American Business English. This intensive, two-week, fifty hour course is specially designed for qualified EFL/ESL teachers and offered monthly.

Methodology: The Cert.TBE course is specifically designed to expand the repertoire of classroom activities and techniques, and to help build a substantial file of immediately usable American Business English material.

Curriculum: You will learn the most effective ways to teach:

* the language of meetings, negotiation and conflict resolution

* commonly used American business idioms

* the language of business faxes, e-mail and the internet

* the language of public speaking

* written business correspondence

and how to:

* prepare and use a needs analysis

* choose appropriate Business English materials

* use audio / video recording for assesment of students' skills

* market your services to international corporations

* use the internet for professional development and course materials

Case Study: As part of the course requirement, you are required to complete a 8-10 page (3,000 word) micro-thesis. You will choose your assignment topic from a list of pre-determined topics. This paper is due 6-8 weeks after the end date of the course and is a major part of your grade.
